The Family / Psychological Counselling Centre project has been continuously implemented since 2009 and is aimed at improving the mental health and wellbeing of individuals and families in psychosocial need through accessible, continuous, and professionally guided support in crisis and stressful life situations.
Individuals and families in Tuzla face daily challenges that affect their emotional functioning, family relationships, and overall quality of life – including conflicts in partner and parenting relationships, difficulties in raising children and adolescents, domestic violence, addiction-related issues, as well as personal and family crises caused by socio-economic pressures. The project responds to these needs by providing professional support focused on emotional stabilisation, strengthening personal and family capacities, and improving everyday functioning.
Through individual, partner, and family psychotherapy and counselling, as well as group psychoeducational activities, beneficiaries develop skills for coping with crises and everyday life pressures, and receive support in dealing with various mental health difficulties such as chronic stress, burnout, anxiety, depressive states, fears and phobias, emotional exhaustion, and difficulties in emotional regulation. The work is also focused on understanding and overcoming the consequences of traumatic experiences, strengthening the sense of personal safety, and enhancing psychological resilience in challenging life circumstances.
Special focus is placed on families at risk, particularly those with children and young people, with the aim of strengthening the functionality of the family system and using their own resources to address challenges.
On an annual basis, the Family / Psychological Counselling Centre provides support to around 300 adults, young people, and children through more than 1,000 individual, partner, family, and group sessions.
The Counselling Centre also contributes to strengthening intersectoral cooperation in the fields of social protection, education, and mental health, positioning Amica Educa as a relevant support centre in the local community and contributing to a greater understanding of the importance of mental health and the reduction of stigma associated with seeking help.
The project is continuously supported by the Government of Tuzla Canton, the Ministry of Labour, Social Policy and Return of Tuzla Canton, and the partner organisation Amica Schweiz.
