The Youth Safe Space initiative aims to improve the mental health, resilience, and sense of safety among young people in Tuzla by establishing an accessible, safe, and professionally supported space for psychological and peer support.
In response to the growing need for a place where young people can openly discuss challenges such as stress, anxiety, emotional difficulties, or violence in peer and partner relationships, the project establishes a physically and emotionally safe space within Amica Educa. This space enables young people to access professional and peer support, develop emotional and social skills, learn self-regulation strategies, and strengthen their resilience.
The project targets young people aged 15 to 30, particularly those from socio-economically vulnerable backgrounds or those who lack access to informal support within their communities. During the implementation period, at least 25 young people will directly benefit from using the safe space, while thematic workshops, peer education sessions, and an Open Day event will engage an additional 30+ participants.
Through two “Safe Hours” workshops, three peer-support sessions led by trained peer counsellors, and a mini online campaign expected to reach at least 2,000 young people, the project offers opportunities for connection, experience sharing, and active youth participation in creating a safer and more supportive environment for themselves and their peers.
Youth Safe Space represents an important step towards the long-term establishment of a Youth Counselling Centre in Tuzla and builds on Amica Educa’s previous work in youth mental health, peer support, and the promotion of gender equality. The project is implemented in the period from April to September 2026 and is funded by Frieda – the Feminist Peace Organisation (Switzerland).
