Positive Discipline in Parenting

Positive Discipline in Parenting

The Positive Discipline in Parenting workshop introduces a contemporary approach to parenting and working with children that encourages the development of responsibility, independence, and a sense of belonging. This approach is grounded in an understanding of children’s developmental needs, the principles of children’s rights, and current research on healthy emotional and social development. The Positive Discipline program was developed by Dr. Jane Nelsen and Dr. Lynn Lott. More information about this approach can be found at: www.positivediscipline.org.

Positive Discipline is a non-violent and encouraging approach that helps parents, caregivers, and other adults build relationships with children based on mutual respect, trust, and responsibility. Rather than relying on punishment or permissiveness, this approach focuses on finding a balance between warmth, understanding, and clearly defined boundaries that provide children with both security and structure.

During the workshop, participants explore how children think, feel, and make decisions, and how adults can respond to challenging parenting situations in ways that encourage learning, cooperation, and the development of important life and social skills. Particular attention is given to understanding the long-term goals of parenting and to building relationships that help children develop a sense of personal value, competence, and belonging.

During the workshop participants:

• learn the core principles of Positive Discipline
• understand children’s developmental needs at different ages
• learn how to set clear and consistent boundaries
• develop constructive ways of responding to challenging parenting situations
• explore approaches that encourage responsibility and cooperation in children
